Hello! Welcome! My name is Catherine, I am a cellist and Suzuki teacher hailing from Portland, Maine. My love for music began when I heard the sound of a string quartet at a Christmas gathering at a young age. I was drawn to the deep, resonant sound and mellow sweetness of the cello. This attraction to music and the cello brought me to the Osher School of Music in Southern Maine where I received a B.M. in cello performance in 2020. Some highlights from my time as a student included studying under Boston Symphony member, William Rounds, and taking part in several masterclasses; my favorites were with cellist Inbal Segev, cellist Yibing Chu and A Far Cry Orchestra. Since then I have had some exciting opportunities to play music in New England with music groups like The Portland Stage Theatre Company, The Raymond Arts Alliance and the Acadia Quartet. Today I am a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University where I have had the pleasure of being the co-director for the Southern Illinois Youth Orchestra and holding a teaching position at Market Music Conservatory in Marion, Il. As a certified Suzuki teacher and proponent of mindfulness in music education it is my goal to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all those I have the honor of teaching.
